Movie #6: The Joneses

Note: I know this review is short, but it's not like any of you saw this movie anyway.

Today we are going to look at a little movie called The Joneses. Directed and written by newcomer Derrick Borte, this film stars David Duchovny and Demi Moore.

The Joneses has quite a few things going for it. One is the performance by Amber Heard, who plays the daughter. She, and maybe David Duchovny, are really the only good performances in this film of the four major characters. The first half of the movie is great, aided by the film's superb premise, which I won't get into, to avoid spoilers.

This is a very socially conscious film, and I can dig that. I really enjoyed the statements it made about American consumerism and our desire to want the newest "toy" even if it is advertised by fakers.

What's a bit missing in this film is a solid ending. The premise in the first half is well explored, but the second half doesn't deliver as well as the first. End the review here if you plan on seeing it and haven't. The next part is a spoiler.

A suicide ending, Really?
